The Role of the President
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/President_of_the_United_States
According to wikipedia, the role of the president to preside over congress and to act as an aid in foreign affairs. He is also the Leader and head role in the country. The president has the power to veto bills put forth by congress, and he also has the power to regulate the economy with oversight from congress.

This article talks about the "seven roles" of the president. These include, Chief of State, Chief Executive, Chief Diplomat, Commander-in-Chief, Chief Legislature, Chief of Party, Chief Guardian of the Economy.. The president has the power to do all of these things, but if he doesn't do them, the country will go down the drain.
http://www.c-spanclassroom.org/pdf/ws_rolesofthepresident.pdf
This article talks about how the president is a party leader. This means that he gets members of his own political party elected to congress. I feel this isn't always good, because of all the underhanded stuff that goes on during elections.

This last article just outlines the roles of the president in about the same manner as the articles above. It says he is the commander in chief and is the head figure of this country.

Differences between economic systems
when looking at all the different types of economic systems, a person can see that there are good and bad to all the three different types.
the united states uses a capitialistic aproach. capitalism is awesome because it allows anyone to start and run their own buissness without much government involvement. this is different from a country with socialism because in that kind of society, the government takes marginal control of the country
in my opionion, i feel communism is the worst kind, since the government takes all control over small and large buisnesses. people dont have libethrties and have to rely one the government for everything..

Update on Bills going through Congress
House Bill 1008 is well on the way to becoming a law. It has been through SD's House and it was voted on with only one person voting against it. Now, it is scheduled to have another hearing to finalize what is one the bill before it passes to the senate for a vote.
House Bil 1112 is a bill regarding healthcare in the state of SD. As of now, it has been drafted, and submitted before the house. It was sent to the state afairs table and was passed there with a majority vote of 12-0. As of now, it is just sitting, waiting for a full house vote to determine if it will continue or not.

Congress Articles
In the CNN article, I liked that I saw they extended the Bush-era tax cuts. What I didn't like was the they also extended un-employment by 13 months. While helping people out by not taxing them is good, giving lazy people free rides from the government in the name of "un-enployment" is not right at all.
The article about congress thinking about shutting down makes me laugh. I say this because, I feel it is very sad that they come up with these ultra elaborate bills, which make them cringe and fight, and once they realize what is actually in them, they aren't happy. If congress would just make bills and laws to help people and not try to tax them to no end, it would save all this hassle and they wouldn't have to think about shutting down over and over.
MSNBC's article also makes me laugh over the stupidity of the senators and represenatives. All they were doing was fighting back and forth and playing the blame game. If they would actually listen to the American people, hear what they want, and not try to push their personal or party agendas, they wouldn't have this problem because most citizens make it pretty clear on what they want from the government and from this country.
In the last article, it talks about how the GOP was fighting itself over the tax cuts. I think the GOP was very stupid to be arguing. This is just letting the liberals win. Tax cuts are a good thing, and they should know that..

How a Bill Becomes a Law
I knew some about how Bill became laws before reading this article. I did know that they had to go through both houses of congress and 1st needed a majority vote. From there, they either were accepted by the governor/president, or vetoed and went back to get a 2/3 vote to still become a law. What i didn't know was all the pre-requisite work that went into the bills, like adding numbers and forming committees to actually write the thing.
Overall, I found this article to be very helpful in making the bill designing process easy for normal, non-polictical people to see.

Quiz Chapter 7
1. Hard money is money that is sent directly to a canidate for their political advertisements. Soft money is money that is sent to the political party so it can be used where ever it can be most used.
2. Electoral process is the process of getting canidates elected to political office. I don't agree with everything that goes on in it, especially the way money is spent on all the elections.
3. In an open primary, anyone can vote on the canadates. In a closed primary, only the people from their political party can.
4. Absentee voting is sending in votes before the actual election date. The positives of this are that people don't HAVE to vote on the actual election day, in theory, maximizing the results of the voting. The downside to absentee voting is that in theory, people could manage to vote twice affecting the overall process.
5. I don't see many changes coming about. Maybe electronic voting but even that will be fought by those who feel it isn't practical or safe.
6. Simply put, I feel that as of now, canidates are spending WAY more than they ever should for elections. That money could and should be going to other things that actually help this country.
7. http://www.foxnews.com/world/2010/12/07/haiti-waits-election-results-amid-fraud-chaos/
This article talks about how Haiti tried to have an election and nothing but fraud and scandal happened. I feel this could happen to our country if things don't change, especially after what has happened in previous years.
